CCEN in conversation with Professor Gerdien Bertram - Troost

The present is often described as a time of crisis, with the Israel-Gaza and Ukraine wars, an ecological crisis, and existential security concerns. Schools must navigate challenging waters on how to address these issues amidst trends of polarization and individualism.

In this online lecture and conversation, Professor Gerdien Bertram-Troost will share some reflections on current trends in Europe and their implications for education. In her lecture, she will show how societal and political developments enter into education policies and practices, and eventually shape the hearts and minds of students. She will argue that schools could take their responsibility for the well-being and broad development of students more seriously by paying attention to the existential dimension of being human, including worldview and/or religion. In doing so, she contributes to the broader discussion on the role of (Christian) education in our present time. After the lecture, there will be time allocated for questions, comments, and discussion.

We invite everyone to join us for this lecture and online conversation with Gerdien on Tuesday, January 16 at 6:30 p.m. (UK time) | 7:30 p.m. (European time), whether you are a member of the network or not. Registration for the event can be completed through Eventbrite. Upon registration, you will receive a confirmation email containing the Zoom link to access the meeting.
